A report from the National Grid acts as a catalyst to start a stimulating debate as it uses four possible energy scenarios says Isaac Occihipinti – Head of National Affairs.
The EUA has recognised that the decarbonisation will continue on with heat and power being joined by the transport sector as a way to cut down on emissions, whilst still maintain affordability and security.
They believe that gas will remain as the primary heating fuel beyond 2040. They say the fact that the gas grid currently delivers gas into 85% of homes across the UK suggests that green gas will be a vital component in the UK’s energy infrastructure for the years to come.
This will be afforded by injecting green gas into the grid, whether it be biomethane, synthetic gas, or hydrogen which will allow the grid to become decarbonised without any homeowners needing to take any action and with very little additional investment.
They end saying that gas enables us to stabilise and secure supply, keep energy prices low and reduce carbon emissions. Regardless of the future, they suspect gas will continue as a major key, UK fuel.
